My Hoover colleague John Cochrane has written an excellent post reminding us of the distinction between changes in relative prices and changes in the overall price level. My monetary economics professor at UCLA, Ben Klein, drove this home when I studied there in the early 1970s and I don’t think any of us in his class forgot it.
